Wednesday Open Thread: Three Things To Watch For USA Women's Basketball Vs. Great Britain

Who: USA Basketball women's senior national team vs. Great Britain

When: 2:10 p.m. EDT on ESPN2

Where: Manchester, England

What: A pre-Olympic warmup for both teams, with Team GB playing their last game prior to the real thing in London. A player to watch for Team GB is Johannah Leedham, drafted 27th overall by the Connecticut Sun in the 2010 WNBA Draft.

As described by Jessica Lantz previously, Leedham chose not to come over to the U.S. in order to work with her national team so that they could be ready to defend their home court in this year's Olympics.

Three things to watch

  • Post play: As described yesterday, Tina Charles, Sylvia Fowles, and Candace Parker were a combined 7-for-20 (35%) in the post against Brazil on Monday. There were a few reasons for that - and Brazil's defense was part of it - but it would be nice to see better production around the basket from at least one post player.
  • Turnovers: Team USA had 10 turnovers in the third quarter vs. Brazil and Karla Costa had three of her game-high 5 steals by taking the ball directly from USA players.
  • Rebounding: Clarissa Dos Santos had 7 offensive rebounds in the first half against the U.S. Although she didn't convert those into second chance points, the U.S. should hope to do a bit better keeping people off the boards today.
