Where? Iowa City, Iowa, home to the Iowa Writers Workshop.

When? March 18th, in Notre Dame, Indiana.

How? They were an at-large selection.

Surprise? The record is not pretty, but the numbers are good, and a winning streak at the end of the season in Big Ten play probably helped.

RPI: 42

SOS: 27

Record: 19-11 (11-6 Big Ten)

Good wins: St. John's in the Bahamas?

Bad losses: At Bradley.

Who's running this show? Lisa Bluder, since 2000. She spent a lot of time in the Missouri Valley in her youth.

Extra, Extra! Hawk Central, brought to you by both the Des Moines Register and the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

Losing leading scorer Jamie Printy to a torn ACL in the first game of February dealt this team a bad blow- they recovered in the Big Ten season, but it remains to be seen if they can keep that up in the tournament, with its short turnaround times and unfamiliar opponents.

In Printy's absence, the role of leading scorer devolves to junior center Morgan Johnson, who averages 14.9 points and 6.6 rebounds, shooting 54.6% from the field. Freshman guard Samantha Logic is the rebounding leader at 7.2. Senior guard Kamille Wahlin can light it up from outside.
