Alyssa Thomas and Alicia DeVaughn each had double-doubles, and Tianna Hawkins and Tierney Pfirman came close, as the Terps closed out their non-conference slate with an easy victory.

Led by 22 points and 11 rebounds from junior forward Alyssa Thomas, the No. 9 Maryland Terrapins (10-2) defeated the 115th RPI ranked Hartford Hawks (9-4), 72-40, to win the Terrapin Classic championship Saturday at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md.

The Terps, who outside of an expected loss at No. 2 Connecticut and an unexpected one at Saint Joseph's, have dominated non-conference play, never trailed against Hartford and out-rebounded them 50-28. They have now won their non-conference home games by an average of 40.6 points.

Maryland had four main contributors: Thomas, junior center Alicia DeVaughn, who also notched a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, senior forward Tianna Hawkins with 16 and nine and freshman Tierney Pfirman with 11 and eight. Star recruit Malina Howard also had a solid game with eight points and she continued to show flashes of her great potential, while fellow freshman, starting point guard Chloe Pavlech, chipped in with a game-high six assists. Also of note: DeVaughn sank her first career three-pointer to open the game.

Nobody on Hartford was in double figures scoring. Senior guard Daphne Elliot led them with 9 points off three of the game's six three-pointers.

Maryland looked good in this game, as they battled and found other ways to score even though redshirt junior guard and 3-point specialist Katie Rutan was held scoreless with no three-point attempts. They had 20 second-chance points to Hartford's four and went to the line 24 times compared to the Hawks who went just seven times.
