Duquesne over West Virginia and the efficiency impact

Stay connected for news and updates

Defending champion Dayton is off to a solid start in the Atlantic Ten. Certainly not to be forgotten is Duquesne, especially following their upset of West Virginia in Morgantown just before Christmas.

The 62-54 victory put the Dukes at 10-1. Suzie McConnell-Serio's club enjoyed an 83-71edge in offensive efficiency at West Virginia. The pace was moderate to brisk at 75possessions.

The win over 24th ranked West Virginia was sparked by 6-2 junior Wumi Agunbiade. She scored a game high 15 points while blocking two shots. Almost lost though was the work of Jocelyn Floyd. A senior guard, Floyd scored seven points but was a virtual stat stuffer with nine boards and seven steals. The efficiencies of bot players show the impact of Floyd's game.

Efficiency

Floyd. 17

Agunbiade. 10

Duquesne-West Virginia is not the 'backyard brawl' as the meetings with the Mountaineers and Pit are. Still, there is a true of rivalry and aded intensity in these meetings. For Duquesne, it amounted to a win over a high profile program from a BCS. Conference. Not to mention a hence to build on a great start and serve notice to the rest of the Atlantic Ten.
