According to Greg Johnson at NCAA.com, Val Ackerman - the first president of the WNBA - has been hired by the NCAA to look at the state of women's college basketball. According to NCAA Vice President of Women’s Basketball Anucha Browne, she will be looking at areas of focus which vary from revenue generation to scheduling to marketing to management.
Ackerman, who is now an adjunct professor in sports management at Columbia University, will present something like a "white paper" to the NCAA this spring which contains her recommendations.
I wonder if rules changes - such as the backcourt rule mentioned by Geno Auriemma and the 24 second clock - will be part of the exam that Ackerman intends to apply to the women's game. It will be interesting to see what she comes up with.
