The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) added Utah Valley and California State-Bakersfield to the conference. CSU Bakersfield will be an all-sports member and 14 of 15 sports sponsored by Utah Valley will join the WAC as well. Both women's basketball teams will begin WAC play in 2013-14.

For CSU-Bakersfield, it ends their independent status. They were the last remaining independent in basketball, looking for a conference for a long time. Utah Valley will leave the Great West conference, leaving the conference with just three members in 2013-14 as Houston Baptist will join the Southland conference that same year.

With six members of the WAC planning to leave in 2013, the move shores up the WAC to six total teams. The total list of women's basketball teams in the WAC in 2013-14 will be CSU-Bakersfield, Denver, Idaho, New Mexico, Seattle, and Utah Valley.
