Generally, I avoid mixing politics and sports at Swish Appeal, but when the combination of the two is presented in snazzy graph form - the link is here - I just can't resist.
We already covered this topic in a previous post from two years ago, but Scarborough Research has updated their graphic of the intersection of sports and politics. The various sports are displayed on two axes: the vertical axis indicates turnout (high and low) and the horizonal axis indicates political alignment (Democrat vs. Republican).
Like the previous graphic, out of the twenty or so sports represented on the graph the typical WNBA fan skews Democrat by a margin far exceeding other sports. The sport that comes closest to the WNBA in its left-leaning skew is the NBA, and the typical WNBA fan exceeds the typical NBA fan in the slant to the left by a rough factor of two.
The most Republican leaning sports fans? Fans of PGA tour golf, men's golf fans.
The fans with the highest turnout? Fans of LPGA tour golf, women's golf fans.
The fans with the lowest turnout? Fans of the WWE, or pro wrestling fans.
