Game thread: Kansas State @ Oklahoma State - 11:30 a.m. CT, FSN

Suttles_medium

Kendra Suttles will be missing for the Cowgirls after starting the last two games for OSU.

Who: Kansas State Wildcats vs. Oklahoma State Cowgirls

What: The Wildcats come into the game riding a three game losing streak after dropping a trio of Big 12 games to Oklahoma, at Baylor and to Iowa State. The Cowgirls enter after taking their last two at Missouri and against Texas A&M this week. So either the streaks for both will live on with an OSU win or fortunes for both squads will be reversed with a K State victory.

Where: Gallagher-Iba Arena - Stillwater, Okla. | 11:30 a.m. CT | FSN

Star-divide

The Story: I'm sure Nate's story will be the appearance of assistant coach Shalee Lehning, but I digress. Both teams are off to respectable starts to the season with K State sporting a 13-6, 4-3 record. OSU comes in with a 12-4, 4-3 mark in the crowded Big 12. OSU, Texas A&M, Kansas State and Oklahoma are all have a 4-3 Big 12 record trailing undefeated Baylor (20-0, 7-0) and Kansas (16-3, 5-2).

I think the thing to watch will be the OSU post play. Sometimes shaky, the Cowgirls are coming off a great all-around game against A&M where the posts held their own in the win. OSU will have the height advantage when 6-6 Vicky McIntyre is in the game, but her minutes have been limited to 10 and under in the last three games despite getting the start against Kansas. Kendra Suttles, who has been a big force for the Pokes of late, will not be playing due to illness. Jalana Childs will present a stiff test for OSU.

Oh yeah, another story to watch - obvy - will be the talents of junior guard Brittany Chambers going up against OSU sophomore floor-leader Tiffany Bias. Chambers is averaging 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Wildcats. Bias helps the Cowboys to 11.6 points and 7.3 assists a night.

Oh weird!

It formats # at the beginning of a row as the start of a list! Tiffany Bias wears #3 and Brittany Chambers is #2 in purple

Oooohhh...

Tiff blocked on OSU’s first shot attempt by Childs. Big time.

Chambers is off

Two very badly missed three point attempts (one an airball). That could bode well for OSU…

OSU 6, KState 4 - 15:02

Not too much scoring to speak of at the first media timeout. Ashia Woods is at the line for the Cats with a chance to tie it up.

Threes are flying

The last four K State baskets have been from long distance, from four different players. Wildcats have taken an 18-14 lead with the extra pointage

Tough play.

Vicky Mc block with an OSU rebound. But then the ball is thrown away for a KState layup. Cowgirls in a little scoring drought and KSU on a 8-0 run

Bias stops the bleeding

With a three and then an almost steal…she couldn’t save it from going out of bounds but hustled her a- off to try to snag the roundball.

K State 23, O State 17, 7:49, 1st half

Brittany Chambers

Must have seen my comment & awoken. She’s scored 10 straight (2 threes, 2 fgs) for the Wildcats. K State is now 8-of-12 from beyond the arc.

Kansas State 35, Oklahoma State 24 - Halftime

Brittany Chambers has 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Oy. Bias has 11 for the Cowgirls but isn’t getting much help. OSU is shooting 30.8% for the game; K State is sinking 41.4% of their attempts.

K State

Picks up in the second half where they left off. Tasha Dickey drains a three for the Cats…

Out of hand...

Hmmm…I think this gap might just be too wide for the Cowgirls to overcome, particularly with the hot hands of the ladies in purple. It’s a 15-point game now and OSU looks a bit frazzled…

by Jessica Lantz on Jan 28, 2012 1:41 PM EST reply actions

Shooting differences

Kansas State – 18-of-40, 10-of-19 from 3

Oklahoma State – 9-of-33, 3-of-15 from 3

Those percentages are hard to overcome. It’s not happening today in Stillwater, save a crazy miracle in the last 13 minutes.

K State 55, O State 35 - 7:54

Brutal, brutal game here. I hate going to games like this, particularly when the school I favor is the one struggling mightily

Well.... OSU is still trying at least...

It’s 56-43 with 3:48 to play as the Pokes have gone on a little spurt. But c’mon lady behind me, it’s not gonna happen today. LOL

I might have lied

OSU making it interesting….

56-47, Cowgirls with the ball, 2:25 to play and the OSU fans are believing in comebacks right now. LOL

60-54

After a layup by Bias. The foul game just worked as Childs just missed the front of her 1-and-1 to give to Pokes the ball before that layup.

Defense for offense subs

Littell is working this last few minutes hard!

by Jessica Lantz on Jan 28, 2012 2:27 PM EST reply actions

The comeback bid fails...

But they sure proved me wrong – I didn’t think they’d ever get it to a two possession game with 1:19 to play after being down so big. Good on ya, Cowgirls!

Kansas State 67, Oklahoma State 56
