WNBA Open Thread: Can New York and Seattle Punch Their Playoff Tickets Tonight?
It's another night of WNBA threading fun here on Swish! Join along in all the super extraordinary fun!
|
Washington at Atlanta In a back-to-back rematch, the Mystics travel to meet the Dream after defending their home court last night, 85-81. With their last two meetings decided by a combined six points, I expect nothing less than another close contest. 7:30 p.m. ET | NBA TV | LiveAccess |
Indiana at Connecticut Both of these teams from the East already have a ticket to the postseason. But both "backed in" as Sun coach Mike Tibault called it. After losses to ‘earn’ their spots, both the Sun and Fever are hungry to prove their worth. 7:30 p.m. ET | LiveAccess |
|
New York at Minnesota With Minnesota sitting comfortably in the driver’s seat of the West, the Liberty would like to follow suit and secure their playoff spot. New York can do just that with a road win tonight. The Lynx can secure home court throughout the playoffs if they defend their turf tonight in the first meeting of the season between these two. 8 p.m. ET | LiveAccess |
Seattle at Tulsa The Storm will clinch their spot in the playoffs by knocking off league-worst Tulsa tonight. Sounds easy, right? It sure wasn’t for the Sun or Sparks, of late, as the Shock have been surging. Seattle has something to fight for too though, as the possibility of a home-court Storm Crazy advantage still looms large. 8 p.m. ET | LiveAccess |

What a great picture!
I miss Taj and her crazy hair for the Libs this year. Loved having her in NY last season. Definitely tough to root against her!
You know I've heard of "computers" and "the internet" right?
Or at least paper, scissors, pens, tape, and cameras.

Seattle clinch the playoffs in the BOK with the Shock Superfans on hand ?!!?!!?!?!?!

Now we're going streakin baby! Two in a row! Two in a row baby!
OMFG. For once,
I am speechless.
(Except to finally remember to tell Nate that I like the latest tag. Perhaps occasionally that filet mignon could be served as a roast—wrapped in a strip or two of bacon, cooked medium rare, and garnished with baby mushrooms.)
If we could make that pic the site's icon...
I’d be very happy.
If we could then get SBN to fund a dinner to actually taste that and really get into the spirit, I’d be happier.
Leave me to my dreams now…

Funny...
I was just thinking today that I need to put a call out to change the tag tonight.
We could just make it:

In other words, better late than never. :)

Not a hard and fast fan of any single team
since I went to a crappy CAA school for basketball in W&M, though they have made some better strides last few seasons. At least W&M has a Top 10 football team and is considered to be one of the favorites to win the Division I Football championship.
On the other hand, I always admired and like the Duke basketball because of my dad having graduated there, and I like Maryland’s play too because my sister goes there. BUT… I have Georgetown basketball tickets this year to get a basketball fix for the winter.. and who knows, what if I go there for an advanced degree?
oh by the way, another team is considered to be one of the top contenders for the Division I football championship too, that is not in the CAA
but Delaware, New Hampshire, James Madison and Villanova are also ranked this year in the preseason from the CAA. This conference is STACKED and can beat the Sun Belt conference.
"I always admired and like the Duke basketball..."
Just when I was starting to think you were a cool fellow CAA alum… you had to drop that on me…
No wonder you like the Washington Blue Devils Mystics ;)
SwishAppeal.com for women's basketball...SB Nation Seattle for Seattle sports...and trying to maintain a Golden State of Mind about the Warriors. Twitter: @NateP_SBN.
Well liking the Mystics is easier when they're from Duke
but it’s not like I care where they come from.
ooooh Georgetown
You definitely need to see you some Sugar Rodgers. And I like Rubylee Wright. And the Tias (Magee and McBride) are good.
Ooooh. College schedules are out. Soon it will be time for #isitnovemberyet.
I am the victim of a basketball jones.
and despite the way stern and fisher talked
saying “well have more….. meetings”, that means nothing. We all know they’re gonna have more………..meetings.
Totally OT:
But since all U.S. citizens should be interested in what’s happening in Iraq in the 10 years since 9/11…

Tulsa 11, Seattle 11 - 4:42, 1st quarter

Jen Lacy
Draining threes like nobody’s bizznezzz! Tulsa up 18-11, 2:22 in the first. Agler has to call a timeout…
Tulsa 23, Seattle 17 - end of the 1st
Woot! Jen Lacy has 11 points, including 3 threes for Tulsa. LJ has 6… without a stat sheet or monitor, that’s all I can give you right this sec.
Tulsa 28, Seattle 27 - 6:09, 2nd quarter
Storm have scored the last 5 points including an easy layup by Tanisha Wright that pretty much forced the Edwards timeout. How the Shock don’t get back down the court to play D will always make me shake my head.

Seattle 40, Tulsa 34 - halftime
Sue Bird with 14 points, 10 in the 2nd quarter; The Storm went on a 13-0 midway through the 2nd, so I don’t think the Shock can feel too bad being within 6 at this point after that stinker 3 minutes.
More stats
Category leaders: T Jack is the game’s leading rebounder with 6; Tanisha Wright with with 3 assists; Seattle leads points in the paint 20-10, no second chance points in this one at all (weird), well maybe not considering there are only 3 offensive rebounds COMBINED…

Just tuned in the Tulsa game
Shanna was complementing Cambage, but with a “but” and she at some point said “she’s definitely a project for the future”. She tried hard to say she was good but needs to be better in a nice way.
Shanna has a different broadcast partner
who is wearing half-frame reading glasses and really putting her on the spot asking her what the Shock needs to do in the second half.
Pedersen first out of the locker room – shooting free throws on her own. Now joined by somebody.
"It's Faith and Family Night, really good to see the
fans get up and get after it".
“They have given us great support throughout the season”.
Shanna's broadcast partner seems to know the WNBA
He said “That little floater that Sue Bird just took is gonna go most of the time, but that time she got nothing.”
Swin Cash
considered one of the most athletic players in the league by Sue Wicks, along with Sheryl Swoopes and Essence Carson.
Seattle 48, Tulsa 37 - 7:19, 3rd quarter
Storm with their largest lead of the night after starting the half on an 8-3 run…

Dear Rebekkah Brunson
I love you very much, because your name is awesome even if you like that annoying diminutive form sometimes. You are awesome and talented and even though you had a lousy game tonight I wish we had drafted you when we had TWO DIFFERENT GODDAMN CHANCES TO.
However, ’80s night does not mean you should attempt ’80s hair. It is a bad plan and you should feel bad for a moment as you celebrate your #1 overall seed in an epic party that should last a good 48 hours.
