I would like to see

USunn & the Dream beat each other up & go to at least triple overtime. Yes, I’m a NY Liberty fan but Indy are my 2nd fave east team.

I would love to see SASS give Minnesota a big fight. But I admit that SA are a future proposition.

As many pictures as there are on this site, there needs to be more music sharing, theme songs for players & teams and such. I’m open to suggestions, but will always default to Wu Tang and Stevie Wonder for making songs in the key of life and the hood.

But 80’s rule.

I always say I was born too late to fully appreciate what occurred musically in that decade. My fondest memories are of GI Joe and the Transformers…and Family Ties… and the Cosby show…and the Warriors being good.

Also, don’t you never, ever, evah, evahevahevahevah watch Neverending Story as an adult. You will regret it.

Interesting comment at half about the Lynx shooting to many Js

In theory I agree and was thinking the same.

In practice: Maya, Seimone, Lindsay drive and kicks to Taj; no team can punish an opponent by spacing the floor better than this team, even when they’re taking a ton of long jumpers…

One of the things that makes Whalen impressive: she finds all of those shooters extremely well…it’s subtle, but really quite amazing to watch compared to other point guards. She just has a way of hitting gaps that most can’t/don’t do and it opens up so much for everyone else..

She's a crafty little

Slightly off subject, but I'm afraid I'll have to be

in Britain during the conference finals and championship finals. Not happy about this—I’ll have to take my daughter’s laptop to bed with me and wake up at odd hours. Such a stupid time of the year for her to choose to get married.

OK, Cats—four consecutive 3-pointers now!

I'll look for it.

by Jessica Lantz on Sep 16, 2011 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

But it’s not real cheese? And it’s tasteless? I don’t get the allure. Must be a Minnesotan thing.

by Jessica Lantz on Sep 16, 2011 10:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I had them at the Tillamook factory and was not impressed.

They get them from some point during the cheese making – before the cheese is finished. Kinda like eating bread before it’s finished cooking. Chewier, moister.

by ttdomi on Sep 16, 2011 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions

They're cheese that's not aged

So they’re squeaky. But they are indeed real cheese… They’re just not finished cheese.

Maya will be fine

She is a very nice kid, and a tough competitor, and she won’t be satisfied with her play. The overkill and hype are not her fault. There’s not an arrogant bone in that kid’s body.

by Shannon Cotterell on Sep 16, 2011 11:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I know

Truly I do. She’s got a tonne of talent, but she’s raw. Which is to be expected, you know, rookie. I think she’s going to be amazing but she’s not there yet. And, yes, it’s not her fault that everyone talks like she’s already there.

by JustineL on Sep 16, 2011 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

I think if you'd seen her play in college you'd have a better appreciation of what she's doing now

She is changing a lot of things about her game, fast. Her role is so different on the Lynx than it was at UConn. It’s been really interesting to see what she can do when the pressure to score isn’t her sole load to bear.

Trust me. I’ve been telling people to shut up about Maya for 4 years (I am NOT a UConn fan.)…but I just absolutely love her with the Lynx.

by Shannon Cotterell on Sep 16, 2011 11:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I think your assessment is spot on.

Talent and potential is there, she has room for growth.

You’re probably seeing it through a less biased lens than most because we all have to work through a genuinely outstanding college career.

Twitter: @NateP_SBN.

by Nate Parham on Sep 16, 2011 11:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Speculative, but...

I’m not entirely sure Adams is an Auriemma type.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on that…

Twitter: @NateP_SBN.

by Nate Parham on Sep 16, 2011 11:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Hard to say if she's the Auriemma type or not

They have had bigger bodies there before. She’s just a shorter bigger body.

But if in alternate universe she did play for UConn, nodoubt she would have gone higher.

by Shannon Cotterell on Sep 16, 2011 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions

He probably doesn't covet players that are

100 pounds overweight, but I am just saying, when you play on a team of high school all-americans that wins all the time, and you are the best player (although maybe it was Charles) you get magnified.

by ttdomi on Sep 16, 2011 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess the only reason I'm hesitant to place too much emphasis on that magnification is that he has produced WNBA All-Stars...

I need not list them all, but it’s not like, say, Duke players in the NBA.

Charles, Moore, Taurasi, Bird deserved, etc deserved every bit of praise they got…

Twitter: @NateP_SBN.

by Nate Parham on Sep 16, 2011 11:52 PM EDT up reply actions

My point in comparison to Duke men's basketball...

is that it’s not a mirage: the players coming out of there have been outstanding for the most part.

Twitter: @NateP_SBN.

by Nate Parham on Sep 16, 2011 11:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Many top programs have high school stars

Not all of that translates to pro success.

Twitter: @NateP_SBN.

by Nate Parham on Sep 16, 2011 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

It's like the WNBA draft

Big difference between the lottery picks and the later first round, second round, third round, undrafted.

Auriemma gets to pick from the lottery candidates. Not the same as getting late first rounders or worse.

by ttdomi on Sep 16, 2011 11:58 PM EDT up reply actions

I see your point...

…but then my point is that these players coming out of that program are actually good. A lot of that attention is warranted.

Twitter: @NateP_SBN.

by Nate Parham on Sep 17, 2011 12:03 AM EDT up reply actions

Is there a top women's ball school

That has failed to produce good wnba players?

by JustineL on Sep 16, 2011 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I would say OU

has a shot in that convo. Unless you count Abi Olajuwon, Courtney Paris, Ashley Paris, Amanda Thompson, etc etc as good wnba players.
Cuz I would definitely say OU counts as a top women’s bball school – especially in the Sherri Coale era.

OH OH

And then look at the Pac-10!!! Great conference!! Best in the nation!!

Twitter: @NateP_SBN.

by Nate Parham on Sep 17, 2011 12:04 AM EDT up reply actions

If you go down the draft history of the WNBA,

there are a number of WAY overhyped players…

I won’t call a single school out, but I think college rep – not necessarily skill – does dictate some of that.

I think the single biggest factor – and can hear it from the way announcers talk about college accomplishments for veteran players – is tournament performance. People put way too much emphasis on performance in 2-3 games…and we’ve seen that in particular not pan out repeatedly… in fact, the 2010 draft is full of examples of that…

Twitter: @NateP_SBN.

by Nate Parham on Sep 17, 2011 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Do you think that's why DA was slighted in the draft?

I thought it was because of stupidity about her build.

by JustineL on Sep 16, 2011 11:47 PM EDT up reply actions

College pedigree does count for a lot

Players from UConn and Tennessee will almost always get a look from WNBA teams, even if they weren’t the top player for their schools.

by Shannon Cotterell on Sep 16, 2011 11:51 PM EDT up reply actions

3 of 13 and they go to her for the game winner?
Then she tries to force the inbound pass over a taller player’s raised arms.
She’s still a really good player who’s improved steadily all season. And a rookie.
If SA can play at the same level with a big home crowd on Sunday, SA can win. The crowd won this game.
