Around SBN: Devils Beat Rangers, Head To Stanley Cup Finals

As already described in the storystream above, Seattle Storm coach Brian Agler and guard Katie Smith fittingly reached career milestones together in their 81-70 win over the Chicago Sky tonight.

But Sylvia Fowles' milestone had to be bittersweet for Sky fans. Fowles was absolutely dominant in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 of the 30 she needed to become the second player to average 20 and 10 for a season in that final 10 minutes. While it was nice to see the Sky's guards looking for her, she got little help throughout the game and they ultimately lost. It's an unfortunately fitting way to end a season in which so much more was expected.

The 2011 Chicago Sky - a few fun peaks, too many valleys

The Chicago Sky were showing flashes of brilliance at various
times this year. They WERE among the playoff qualifier teams
at the all star break. They beat 6 of the 8 teams that eventually qualified
for the playoffs. The 1st time they played Minnesota they tied the score in the 3rd quarter
and they briefly held a 4th quarter lead the 2nd time they played against the Lynx.
(Minnesota had the best record in the league) The Sky also had 3 players appointed
to the All Star team and all 3 played well on that team. Home court attendance was
up approximately 33%.

But, the Sky frequently shot below 40% from the field and below 30% from 3 point range and they lead the league in turnovers with even more than the 3(W) – 26 (L) Tulsa Shock.

Sylvia Fowles averaged a double double and is considered a viable MVP candidate.
She was number one in blocks and FG percentage.

At certain parts of the season, Courtney Vander Sloot, Epiphany Prince, Michelle Snow,
and Catherine Kraayveld put together a string of strong performances.
Epiphany experienced a substantial crash in her performance level in the 2nd half
of the season.

The talent was certainly there and it was an interesting close-but-no-cigar season
for this Chicago Sky roster.
