Storm Update: Is Jackson ready to play?

Star-divide

I won't be at the game since I will see the Capital Punishment game at Trinity U in Washington, featuring Kevin Durant of the Thunder and John Wall of the Wizards. Too good to pass up with them on the same team.

Sorry the typing looks bad as I am making this fanpost on the cell phone.Yes the full site works, but not well.

Either way, go Mystics!

I’ll be watching the Sky-Mystics game on NBA TV as well.

But I too am interested in Durant/Wall

21-16 Sky at the end of 1

Sylvia Fowles having a field day against the Mystics, with 11 points on 5-6 shooting.

What bodes well for the Mystics is that they’ve been a bit more balanced… if you’re searching hard for positives in a 33.3% shooting first quarter….

A four point deficit against a team that should have been fired up on their own to get to the playoffs...

Is not that bad actually…

A little bit more balance is helping the Mystics right now…. unless of course Fowles scores 35-40 points ….

I haven't heard anybody but Alan Horton mention rebkell

Rebkell is a larger, more established community so it’s understandable to me. Maybe one day we’ll get there, with your continued help to make this community great of course. :)

I can’t lie – I like this Sparks team a whole lot. I think them making the playoffs would make for a great story this season… and make the playoffs even more intriguing.

(By the way, Niners or Raiders?)

I don't really mind the Sparks,

and, yes, they are an interesting story. I’m just rooting for Minnesota, in part because I’m so fond of Augustus.

Rebkell has its moments, but I find SwishAppeal better-tempered and less cliquish. Ah, well. S.A.’s time shall come.

This is SB Nation, the biggest sports blog network, I think we can do much better.

Not meant to bash RebKell, but SB Nation has much better resources available and the layout looks so much nicer as well. Also, SB Nation allows us to have a one stop shop to be members of other blogs we follow closely. and for the big four leagues’ teams, most of the biggest blogs for those teams are SB Nation affiliated, like Mavs Moneyball, Blog a Bull, Hogs Haven, Japers Rink, and Pinstripe Alley.

back spasms? I would think that whether you played or not would be determined during the game whether you were having them or not. At least it sounds like something that only would happen occasionally.

The other thing is I don't know that there are any

Taurasi, Moore, Pondexter, Augustus level players coming out next year.

Maybe not quite that level but...Nneka Ogwumike

You haven’t seen her best basketball yet. She’s going to be one of those players who gets in into the W and just explodes, I think.

Nice work inside vs LJ.

Kia Vaughn just picked up her 3rd foul

About 2 minutes in to the 2nd quarter. Quanitra Hollingsworth didn’t make the trip (per the Liberty Twitter account) so we’ll probably see a lot of Kara Braxton.

by onetimer on Aug 20, 2011 10:35 PM EDT reply actions

Without Kara Braxton the Liberty

would not have beaten Connecticut in my opinion. She had a good game.

by ttdomi on Aug 20, 2011 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Particularly in the 4th quarter

She was great. They definitely miss having the extra big body with Hollingsworth, though, because foul trouble means they have to go to Ta’shia Philips which is not ideal.

She’s clearly still feeling the knee bruise. Have to wonder if she’ll be able to play her usual minutes.

I will post the obligatory NP photo. I think she looks good in her WNBA roster head shot:

And she documents the two years

that Seattle was able to win a playoff series:

by ttdomi on Aug 20, 2011 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions

That's right sports fans.

Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson have been together for 9 previous seasons and only won a playoff series in 2 of those years.

by ttdomi on Aug 20, 2011 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions

So for you fans who don't see

2 of the 15 greatest players in WNBA history on your roster, don’t be disappointed if you can’t win a playoff series.

by ttdomi on Aug 20, 2011 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions

The Storm should be disappointed when you think about it

because they only got two championships with two of the top five players in the league.

by thewiz06 on Aug 20, 2011 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I would think that the Storm would blow up their team when it's clear that Sue or LJ and their cast

start sucking more than rocking, and hopefully that gets them a top rated pick. Either way, great teams know how to stay great after a group of stars are gone. I don’t think Seattle’s attendance will drop sharply after the Storm starts sucking again which will happen sooner or later like any other team…..

If more people are lining up to buy Mystics tickets because they started sucking again as usual, hell, the Storm will sell out the Key like the Caps do at Verizon Center!!!!

My top 5 in no order

Sue
Diana
Lauren
Candace
Cappie

by thewiz06 on Aug 21, 2011 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions

The one player I would

unequivocably put in a top 5 is Pondexter.

And for my money, Jackson and Bird both seem to be better in the regular season than the playoffs.

by ttdomi on Aug 21, 2011 12:04 AM EDT up reply actions

I guess a lot of Jackson's post-season performance

can be attributed to Lisa Leslie.
The Sparks eliminated Seattle in the first round four times.

By the way, Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson both failed to make the playoffs in 2003. Bird played every game that year. Jackson missed on. So there you have it WNBA fans. If your team fails to make the playoffs, remember that a team with 2 of the 15 greatest players in WNBA history also failed to make them.

by ttdomi on Aug 21, 2011 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions

Absolutely

There’s a certain element of luck to winning championships too. Gotta have the good health to go along with the talent.

by onetimer on Aug 20, 2011 11:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Very reminiscent of the Sonics of the 90's

great team that could’ve easily won championships if Mike wasn’t playing…..

the Storm is a team that is as talented as anyone but they don’t win enough in the postseason for some reason……

Here is a better shot of the Sanford right leg short tuck.

She did have both tucked but it ends up probably being more offensive to the league with just one.

What a game… sometimes defensive battles can be hard to watch, but this is a very well played game.

Sue deserves to win it for the WNBA. She’s not a bad defender, minus the reach arounds, but they work a great amount of the time.

SilverStars are heading for a loss

Why the hell does Frank Hanrahan call it “woman to woman” defense? I don’t think most women think it’s a problem when they hear man to man defense?
