Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

As you all know, conference alignments are made mainly because of the money involved in football. The talk about Texas A&M University joining the SEC is now for real, and the SEC university presidents are having a meeting about it tomorrow. The A&M Regents will have a special meeting Monday regarding the situation.

Other schools are rumored to be part of a new SEC expansion, including the University of Missouri (AD has denied), and Clemson University.

If Texas A&M does leave, and the Big 12 explores expansion, some schools they may want to invite include the University of Notre Dame, Brigham Young University, and the United States Air Force Academy. From a basketball perspective, grabbing all three programs would keep the Big 12 decent as a conference, but I'm skeptical on how Air Force can be in basketball, and other sports, because of strict service academy physical requirements. In addition, should Air Force join a BCS conference, you can almost bet that Army and Navy will look into joining an automatic BCS league themselves.

Discuss how this affects the college landscape....

The Big 12

Should have just dissolved last year. Texas is turning into an egotistical arse with DeLoss Dodds somehow spearheading the search for a replacement. Around here, Houston is the most talked about possibility. The ND talk is that the Irish and Longhorns would separate themselves and create their own power conference… Dodds has also stated he’d prefer to keep the Big 12 at 10 teams rather than go back up to 12. I am so annoyed by the realignment talks and just want it to be over and done with. If it’s gonna happen, happen already! I would personally like for the Oklahoma schools to split from Texas and stop catering to their whims. All this nonsense makes me wish for the Big 8 back – the NON-Texas Big 8! Waa. Who made UT the boss anyway? If all of the conference changes are indeed based on $ (which I believe they are), then how is a 2010 5-7 team running the horse and pony show. Do not like! (at least for now. must take a breather before my head explodes.)

it appears that this is yet another false alarm

The sec decided that they didn’t need to expand just yet at least.

I think

It’s all legal-businessy related right now. The SEC doesn’t want to get sued by the Big 12, so TAMU has to make the first move. Which they’re planning to do tomorrow afternoon at the board of regents meeting. Even though they have a skewed vision of themselves, I don’t think there’s any way aTm would have stuck itself out so far if it wasn’t a done deal. I say hold off on whether this is a false alarm or not until after tomorrow’s A&M meeting and Wednesdays’ SEC meeting of the AD’s.
