I see there is a ton of excitement for this Mystics @ Fever game
…or not.
I’ll just assume everyone is suffering from Japan/Germany hangover at the moment.

Apparently the Fever are also suffering a hangover
They are down to the Mystics at the half. o.O

I will be around for second half of Dream - Sky and of course...
…the mighty, mighty, Seattle Storm.

Thanks for the synopsises
I always look forward to NBA TV doubleheader coverage of the WNBA.
Because this is Swish Appeal, that must mean that “they’ve got that whipappeal.”
Hopefully, the performances tonite are good and motivate
me to think “keep on working on meeeeee!”. Like Babyface.
Love that song...

As the site’s founder, I will neither confirm nor deny that Babyface’s song served as inspiration for the name of this site.
Either way could be construed badly, particularly for people, such as yourself, with such great taste in music…

Ridiculous level of talent out on the floor for Lynx/Sun
Game is so much fun so far.

I'm watching the game on Live Access for my Mystics.... on my Plasma btw and typing on my laptop....
What the hell is going on? The MYstics were leading most of this whole time, Now they are giving it away. But it’s not like I wasn’t expecting this……….
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
BACK TO BACK STEALS BY CATCHINGS LATE IN THE FOURTH!? GET YOUR GODDAMN HEADS IN THE GAME MYSTICS! YOU CAN’T BE THIS CLUELESS!!
19 DC turnovers, for 25 points by Indy
Indy has 8 turnovers…. Catchings has taken over this game on her natural side of the floor, guess which one friends.
Sky down 37-26...at home...
I think I just heard the guy say 15 turnovers… but that can’t be true…

Yes - did mishear..
It’s 14 turnovers… that’s insane for one half…

Possibly
Except I’m not making political excuses ;)

I meant Fever
the team was playing PAcers ads all game long. Get season tix to see… a team, and audition for the Dance Team next week! :)
Pokey walked to the locker room before it was over...
I think I love the theatrics… but I wonder how much the team does….

I'm watching the Minny game now because I never saw Maya play as a pro yet....
Why doe sCharde Houston have a shaved head?
This game is pretty full in Minny
that city has been dying for any playoff basketball for quite awhile now.. I hope they finally make it this year.
Connecticut scored six points in the third quarter...
And that’s after hanging 43 in the first half.
OK... back in time to see the finish of this Atl - Chi game
Chi up 60-59 … and McCoughtry is trying to force more turnovers…

Only 3 turnovers since that 14 to first half…

Toliver and Lavender starting?
According to Yahoo!’s box score, Toliver and Lavender are starting in place of Penicheiro and Thompson.
Jayda Evans tweeted that too. Must be true. Wow.
by Jessica Lantz on Jul 9, 2011 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions
That might make sense to me against the Storm
Dunlap, Charles, and Davenport killed them inside on that road trip…
Lavender has a shot to do some damage, I suppose…i haven’t seen her be consistently effective though…

Am I seeing things in Chicago?
They have an ad for the next home game on the court…. I guess it’s free advertising when you see it..
I’m now watching the Seattle game…. like everyone else here….
Are all the Seattle games on the radio and TV? I saw Dick FAin and Adia at Verizon on Sunday. Am I allowed to say that she is soooofine?
Shot selection ATL!!
Chi up 71- 67 – going to the basket drawing fouls. Atl taking a few contested shots…

Jackson is in crutches... pobrecita
Nate, you may know this better. Is the PA Announcer for the Storm also the last PA Announcer for the Supersonics?
Sky look to be getting a win here
Their ability to cut tovs down and get to the line so well down the stretch made the difference…
Now on to the Storm!

I'm actually watching this on liveaccess instead of NBA TV
It actually is easier for me for some reason.
Swin Cash is showing what makes her a possible MVP of this team
Just constant energy attacking the basket and defending players all over the court…

I hope John Wall watches Sue play during this offseason.
I want him to play like she does on offense at least.
I think starting Lavender was a good move
Seattle is really struggling to guard the paint.
It’s only a few points, but it keeps them off-balance…
SwishAppeal.com for women's basketball...SB Nation Seattle for Seattle sports...and trying to maintain a Golden State of Mind about the Warriors. Twitter: @NateP_SBN.

I'm going to throw this out there because nobody ever defends A-Rob
She’s looking much more comfortable with the ball on the block this year.
It’s not resulting in huge numbers, but it’s pretty big for a team whose bench is struggling…

1st qtr: Sparks 23, Storm 20
Stats notes – Storm getting outshot (again) but shooting better.
eFG%
Sparks 50%
Storm 44%
What I wonder is if the Sparks’ effective post game will open up more 3pt shots (1-3 in first)….

Oh, I've been known to be a serious (SERIOUS!!!!!!) basketball geek
I used to post on the WBBALL-L mailing list back when it was actually hopping, and I was the one doing all the math stat comparisons to show people how terribly wrong their assertions were. Now that you are doing all of that for me on this site, I can focus my (limited) brainpower on just (attempting) to be funny, instead.

Oh, well if that's the case...
…excuse me for a minute because I need to go register WNBAhair.com, so I can have those serious conversations in peace with like-minded people who appreciate how important hair is.
by Shannon Cotterell on Jul 9, 2011 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions
THat runs the risk of splitting the movement.
Can we compromise and keep hair convos to a min? lol Like only when absolutely necessary beyond a reasonable doubt?
SwishAppeal.com for women's basketball...SB Nation Seattle for Seattle sports...and trying to maintain a Golden State of Mind about the Warriors. Twitter: @NateP_SBN.
Example:
Taj’s hair is almost a mandatory discussion…I cannot claim to be hairstyle blind (that is never productive for society)
SwishAppeal.com for women's basketball...SB Nation Seattle for Seattle sports...and trying to maintain a Golden State of Mind about the Warriors. Twitter: @NateP_SBN.
Taj's hair is worthy of the "what is this I don't even" meme
I just…what is she doing? Seriously! See also, whatever Angel McCaughtry is doing with her hair (I think Queenie nailed it when she called it a Tribble).
My hair discussion list is a positive hair list, BTW.
by Shannon Cotterell on Jul 9, 2011 11:24 PM EDT up reply actions
As long as it's positive.
But your silence on Taj is deafening. ;)
SwishAppeal.com for women's basketball...SB Nation Seattle for Seattle sports...and trying to maintain a Golden State of Mind about the Warriors. Twitter: @NateP_SBN.
I try to not think about Taj's hair.
Seriously.
Also, I think if you are a pro baller and you are going to put a wacky color in your hair, it should be a team color or at least complimentary to your team’s colors. (Unless you are ARob in which case your hair is just awesome and you get a free pass.)
by Shannon Cotterell on Jul 9, 2011 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions
There are actually very few players who require serious hair discussion.
If you let me have DRob and ARob (and see I’ve been good and not even talked about ARob’s hair yet) along with Charde and Shanna I can probably live with that. I reserve the right to follow-up comment if someone else starts in with the hair, though.
by Shannon Cotterell on Jul 9, 2011 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions
What about Diana then?
How does she prevent damaging her hair out when it’s in that bun? I guess she really doesn’t wear it when she’s not playing right?
Toliver is also a bit of a hothead
We saw that against PHX. She’s got to get a bit of a better grip on that to go along with her improved play. She did a lot of hurt her team that night. She’ll learn, but I’m sure the Sparks hope it’s sooner rather than later. ;)
by Shannon Cotterell on Jul 9, 2011 11:02 PM EDT reply actions
yup
I was hoping we could have drafted her instead of Coleman in 2009, but then again, Coleman brought a lot of versatility too as a swingman. Right now, she’s been a disappointment being nothing more than a three point shooter her first couple years, and this year, she just hasn’t panned out much either…..
Now the video in the white house....
For some reason, last couple years, it’s really hit a wrong nerve with me when championship teams come to the white house and then host camps, etc. in DC.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it here or maybe it was Bullets Forever, but last year in January 2010, the LAkers visited President Obama, and then hosted a camp in DC at the Verizon Center practice court with kids in our area. They then left the camp in Lakers gear and the players naturally told them to do an ending cheer with “GO LAKERS”. There was actually a video of it for NBA Cares. As a sports fan, it really, really hurt, because it was just soon after the Gilbert Arenas situation was going out. Sorry if I repeated this……..
Halftime stats if you still care about old ish
Neither team had a big offensive rebounding half, but both got better in the second quarter:
2nd qtr Oreb%
Sparks: 60%
Storm: 44%
If the Sparks continue to win the oboards and outshoot the Storm, a home loss could be imminent…
SwishAppeal.com for women's basketball...SB Nation Seattle for Seattle sports...and trying to maintain a Golden State of Mind about the Warriors. Twitter: @NateP_SBN.
Likewise...
Giving a team struggling for points like the Storm easy fts is not good…

Wow... 57-49 Seattle with 4:04 left...
I can’t remember the last time I had the Storm with this kind of momentum…
Either the opener against the Mercury… or the WNBA Finals…
Tulsa and Washington gave away games… and it was more Storm D

That hoveround commercial really cracks me up
how can an old man who’s losing his ability to walk be so enthusiastically happy to be in a plush version of a wheelchair? He sounds like a stereotypical old man too…
Call now….. RIGHT NOW!!!
Storm up 70-60 at end of 3
Key stat:
Storm shooting helped by Sparks tos:
3rd qtr tov%:
Sparks: 33% (7)
Storm: 10% (2)
But overall, Storm’s 71.88% eFG makes that one of their best quarters of the season…and it was just great overall
