7/8/11 NBA TV RECAP - ONLY BECAUSE OF THE LOCKOUT?

Since I started to watch the NBA TV broadcasts of WNBA contests in 2008, I have compared the coverage that NBA TV gives to the two leagues. I could swear that I have noticed that NBA TV has reduced its coverage of the WNBA in 2010 and 2011compared to the level of coverage in 2008 and 2009. I understand that NBA TV must seek to maximize its ratings, selectively choose its expenses, and maximize advertising revenue. These profit motive factors probably explain the reason for the coverage reduction. Most hard core or medium core NBA fans do not closely follow the WNBA in any season. Still, in an ideal world I would want identical GameTime coverage for the WNBA that is provided for the NBA.

For the first time in two seasons I watched, on Friday 7/8/11 NBA TV provide the kind of postgame recap, recap of other matches, and general WNBA league news that for the past 2 years has been exclusively provided only for NBA scores and news.  Was this type of weekly and daily recap of league scores and other league news furnished for the WNBA only because there is an NBA league policy that is now in effect to avoid any promotion of present NBA players in news shows,  rebroadcasts of NBA games, or other shows that involve active NBA players? If that is the reason for this recap then it is a good side effect for us addicts to professional basketball of all kinds (or for people that only follow women's basketball).

Anyone else see this recap, enjoy this recap, and would like it to continue, permanently?

When I watch NBA TV during the WNBA season there is much a better chance that I would watch this recap on any day when there has been WNBA game activity than the chance I would watch the 1000th rebroadcast of the 2011 NBA draft review or another NBA related show unless it is a rebroadcast of 4 quarters or more of a professional basketball contest.

WNBA Action is really nice but not as compelling as recaps, particularly when there is expert analysis and video footage of all contests that were played that day around the WNBA.

My additional two cents is I think that in the 7-8 interview of Swin Cash her voice is similar to Vanessa Huxtable.

Well the NBA put out a statement saying that

the players didn’t really deserve to be promoted much right now, fwiw. They still started out the show with NBA news too. I do feel that there needs to be more WNBA related shows on NBA TV, and I’m sure there is an audience to watch the show. I love watching team documentary shows from the local teams in Washington, to Hard Knocks, and to HBO’s 24/7. Make some on the WNBA teams. It makes them more human when I don’t get to see women playing pro hoops for literally most of the year.

As a hardcore Wizards fan who does follow the Mystics closely (not so much the rest of the league where I only have a tertiary feel…( I have a feeling that many fans of WNBA teams tend to follow more teams kind of closely while I don’t really), but I do agree.
