"taking on the cellar-dwellers in the East, the Mystics"
the better headline is:
“The rising Mercury (9-4) look to give a knockout punch to the pitiful Mystics (2-9) early with former Mercury head coach Cheryl Miller cheering them on!
All of our previews are brought to you by Hoveround. Keeping All Senior Citizens moving around in their own home instead of a nursing home. The old geezer in the shirt called and so should you. [old man’s voice] ‘CALL NOW! RIGHT NOW!’
Also, brought to you by Life Alert. Life Alert: ‘Help! The Mystics have fallen, and they can’t get up!’ "
Watching Lynx-Fever now...

Straight beasting.
I’m not sure how you beat the Fever consistently with her scoring efficiently.

I hope Edwards' plan of letting Cambage play through foul trouble helps...
…it’s not conventional..and could backfire if Cambage comes out timid..

Cambage
She looks very off-balance taking shots around the basket. Her footwork is fine, but her shots look to be all arms…

Tulsa does not want to get in a three point shootout...

of note -
Instead of her spot on the broadcast tonight, Shanna Crossley is sitting behind the bench….
Have they made her
a mole for the owners?
If not, get the greatest color commentator in history back at the announcers table!
Haha
She is playing well…
I like her when she’s not launching shots on every touch…

Stats
Tiffany Jackson – 7 pts, 3 rebs; Andrea Riley – 6 pts
DeLisha Milton-Jones – 6 pts, 2 reb, 1 ast; Ebony Hoffman 3 turnovers
Tulsa’s 2 point lead was the largest after the first quarter this season

Riley triple
Bounces everywhere on the backboard – everywhere – and falls. Andrea looked stunned. So did the crowd! Tulsa up!
Tulsa 45, LA 36 - HALFTIME
This marks the largest halftime lead the Shock have had this season. Only one other time have they led at the midpoint – against Seattle.
Stats...
ANDREA RILEY (GO POKES!!) has 14 points and two steals; Tiffany Jackson with 10 points, seven boards.
LA’s only double-digit scorer is Toliver with 11 points, four assists….
Points in the paint – Tulsa 24, LA 10
Both teams shooting over 50% – the Shock come in at 54.5%, the Sparks at 51.9%

Tulsa 55, LA 41 - 4:57, 3rd quarter
Tulsa is playing their hearts out. The fans are rowdy. I’m glad to see it!
Three point shot
coming alive for LA – Quinn sinks one and next Sparks possession Toliver drains one. Puts it back to a 10-point game and LA has the ball.
That was shady
Called an offensive foul on Lacy; DMJ took a fall, but I’m not so sure that’s the right call….
Tulsa 61, LA 54 - End of the 3rd
Oh buddy. Ten more minutes to hold on to get win number two. It just might happen.
Tulsa 71, LA 65; 4:55, 4th quarter
The Shock are letting the Sparks creep back in after building as much as an 18-point lead with 6:11 on the clock in the 3rd. But I think (read: hope) that Tulsa can hang on.
I might die
If Tulsa doesn’t pull this off. It’s tied at 73 all with 1:17 and LA has the ball. The Shock led by 18 with 6:50 in the 3rd.
SO.
Call a nice funeral home for me? Toliver buries a three with 19.7 seconds left. 78-74 LA lead.

We just saw
Jackson steal and then Holt get stripped on the break and the Sparks break the other way.
Tulsa gets no luck
with Gillom or Latta they win.
I still see Cambage calling for the ball but not getting it.
now the phoenix color analyst is taking an indirect shot at us....
mentions that plank was her coach in college.
I would love to see coach plank plank on something for kicks…………….
And Braxton is a key to Phoenix
winning a championship.
No one out there who can challenge her? Sylvia Fowles might be able to handle that position.
I guess after an ugly start
Phoenix is the favorite once again. Until Jackson gets back, that is.
But the announcer thinks Minnesota and Phoenix in the finals.
and both he and Miller look for Indiana out of the East.
we are making dumb turnovers
And giving easy baskets… at the same time the mercury broadcast team is calling us a team that prides on defense! Off the camera they must be laughing out so hard….

meanwhile earlier on nba tv, we saw a quick snippet of four old men including bill russell, bill walton, dr j, and i forgot who else
Dr. J had a great line. He approached the game to say that he wouldn’t boast when he won nor cry when he lost. Can’t say that about today’s players.

laurel richie said in her interview
That people tend to follow teams and players rather than leagues. Is this true for the wnba as well? I don’t really relate to the other teams much besides the mystics, though yes I do follow other teams’ players to some degree. Not just for the wnba, but any league.
Oh boy…. the life alert commercial finally showed up.. when’s the hoveround man going to tell us to call now? Right now?
by thewiz06 on Jul 15, 2011 11:25 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
the latest commercial i got annoyed by was the four seasons sunroom commercial.
The nba laid off 11% of their staff this week, though it’ not lockout related. I guess it has to be because all the commercials are just 2nd class material or infomercial-esque……..

Wow, Swanier is still on the side
with her sunglasses on. I think they originally said she would be back sooner than this.
I like the shots they show of the arena and the city.
Would like to be there until I think about the fact that it is 98 degrees there right now with the sun already gone down!
There you go thewiz06
Charlie Turner-Thorne is very impressed with Washington’s speed. “The future looks bright for the Washington Mystics”.
Charlie
puts her coaches hat on. “Bottom line is we don’t control the officials. Control what you can control”.
nothing is falling our way...
76 to 57..phx

Got any vodka up in here?
Or shooting lessons for Nicole bleeping Powell?
I am the victim of a basketball jones.
Yes, and we are pouring
Grey Goose exclusively.
Nicole Powell is certainly hot and cold. More cold I suppose.
strained patellar tendon
she was rocking the team colors in her street clothes, though. That’s commitment.
I am the victim of a basketball jones.
steve smith looks real tired.
They just give a glancing shot with no highlights for the tulsa-la game…….. then again, I think it will make jessica’s blood boil.

A strangely underwhelming offensive performance from the Mystics
How is it that the Mystics got a case of the miss-a-lot-of-not-too-hard-for-a-pro-layups-itis? Generally, they played strong defense and rebounded well but they could not take advantage of Phoenix turnovers or situations where Phoenix missed its shots for several consecutive possessions. As a consolation prize that Phoenix’s two prior opponents did not earn, the Mystics did keep the Phoenix point total way below 100. This is not bad since at three Phoenix players (Taurasi, Taylor, Dupree) have very strong cases that should be on the 2011 West All Star squad.
