"This is a strong, quick, athletic and defensive-minded group of players that will be an exciting team to watch this season. We have a very talented group of veterans that will help lead a strong collection of rookies that have a great opportunity to learn and grow their game this season," Whisenant said.

From a New York Liberty release announcing their final roster, without center Janel McCarville.

First, congratulations to Sydney Colson, who I thoroughly enjoyed watching in college.

Update: Janel McCarville has been suspended for the season, according to the AP (via WSJ). That puts a lot of pressure on rookie Jessica Breland, Quanitra Hollingsworth, and Kia Vaughn to carry the weight.

Does anyone know why Janel isn’t playing? And if she’s not on the roster, does she become a free agent next summer — like, do they waive her?

With the loss of McCarville and McWilliams-Franklin, the Liberty inside presence could be downright awful. Hopefully Kia Vaughn will finally step up, but I’m not counting on that. May be a long summer for Liberty fans.

Not sure but...

she’s now suspended for the season for failing to report for camp. Not sure where that leaves her as far as her status for free agency next summer. I am not a happy camper… no pun intended…

Haha, you and me both. Just saw the update from the team on Facebook. Wonder what happened there — why didn’t she report? The whole thing is sort of weird.

Say it's a trick, Janel!

Say it’s a trick!

People complain about almost no dunking in the WNBA. I LIKE that there is almost no dunking in the WNBA. That way, we're never subjected to garbage like LeBron and Bosh strutting and posing and hollering like punks after doing something as basic as jumping high enough.
