"It's an unfortunate set of circumstances, yet it's the nature and reality of sports," said (Chicago Sky Coach Pokey) Chatman. "Meka, was obviously someone we were looking forward to returning back to form and helping us reach our goals."

Christon, a former all-star while playing for the New York Liberty, played in 10 games for the Sky in 2010 averaging 8.5 points and 2.4 rebounds before an eye injury sidelined her for the remainder of the season.

"Although she's had an unbelievably difficult year considering her eye, concussion, and knee," continued Chatman. "I'm positive she will find the resolve to bounce back. We wish her all the best on her road to recovery."

The 11 player roster claims another; will someone gamble on her now, or wait for her health to improve?

As unfortunate as this is...

…it makes a lot of sense.

With the prospect of Prince being out for an indefinite amount of time, they couldn’t really afford to carry another player who will be out for at least eight weeks.

This is definitely the biggest challenge of 11-player rosters – if you lose a franchise cornerstone like Parker or Beard to season-ending injury, you just take the loss and keep her. But a player that only played in 10 games for you last year and has suffered multiple injuries is simply difficult to justify keeping….

Also interesting, though not necessarily unexpected: Bjorklund has made the roster. I’m interested to see what she can do as a pro.

a small forward rotation...

of Bjorklund and Tamera Young…unless they are going real small with three guards or big with three posts.

Interesting….

No, sorry

but four weeks of Shameka playing, even 50%, plus two months of Shameka in street clothes, still combine to more value than three months of Angie Bjorklund in uniform.

I am the victim of a basketball jones.

What I'm wondering

…is if the “at least” part of the eight weeks means they really are expecting it to be longer before she gets into game shape (Loree Moore was in a similar situation last year … and then never got better)…
