ATLANTA - Joanne Boyle, head coach of the University of California Golden Bears, is the winner of the 2011 Carol Eckman Award, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today.
The Carol Eckman Award is presented annually to an active WBCA coach who exemplifies Eckman's spirit, integrity and character through sportsmanship, commitment to the student-athlete, honesty, ethical behavior, courage and dedication to purpose.

Likely a pleasant surprise for Cal fans in a season during which they ultimately haven't met expectations after winning the 2010 WNIT.
