USF hosts Florida as Azzi's Dons Seek First Home Win of the Season
Helloooo from War Memorial Gym on the Hilltop!! I ventured across the street to take in the San Francisco Dons hosting the Florida Gators. If you'd like to follow along with me (I quite probably will be using this as a thread-like post), click the above link for the live game broadcast. You can find live stats online as well to supplement your watching, if you are so inclined.
The Dons (1-8) are looking for their first home win of the year while the Gators (6-2) are looking to rebound from Friday's defeat at the hands of #11/12 Rutgers. Florida is on a two-game West Coast tour, their first true road games of the season, as they meet up with Pacific on Friday.

When did Florida change their colors?
These jerseys confuse me. Or maybe my senses are just out of whack after some time at the Exploratorium today. Black jerseys…blue (looks purple to me) side squiggles/accents…orange (looks neon almost pinkish to me) numbers.
I feel like they packed the wrong unis. Or that I don’t watch enough SEC basketball to know this is their normal look.
USF's Rheina Ale recognized
For joining the 1,000 point club – Coach Azzi presents her with a game ball before the starting lineups….
Sooooo....
USF is going to have a long night if they can’t figure out how to inbounds to ball against the press. Loooooonnnngggg.
Florida 6, USF 5 - 15:52; 1st half
USF can’t break a press, and has already committed four turnovers. Good news though….Florida can’t hit a shot and has also committed four turnovers.
Big cheers for Sac Town native
Brittany Shine as she checks in for the Gators. Looks like she has quite a cheering section and I think they have little cutouts of her that they waved on the court. I would guess there are upwards of 40 people here cheering on the visitors….
Florida 21, USF 12 - 11:00, 1st half
Not sure why it took so long for Azzi to call for the timeout as the Gators are currently on a 13-0 run over the last 3 minutes of play. Hard to believe that the Dons held the 10-8 advantage not so long ago…
Florida 38, USF 24 - 3:14, 1st half
Hmmm…this might not be the game for USF to get their first home win. Florida’s Jennifer George looking good with 10 points, 4 boards, 2 steals… she seems to be able to overpower the Dons without a lot of trouble…
Florida 46, San Francisco 28 - HALFTIME
Stats:
Leading scorer is UF’s Jennifer George, who has 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting. She’s also the game’s leading rebounder with five (3 offensive). The Gators are dominating the hustle categories – 20-6 points in the paint, 16-2 points off turnovers, 12-0 second chance points.
For the Dons, Rheina Ale is trying to add to her 1,000+ career points, and leads the team with 11 points, but also four rebounds. USF committed 12 first half turnovers and is shooting 38.5% for the night. The Dons have zero offensive rebounds and are getting outworked on the boards by a 26-15 clip.
Florida 66, USF 47 - 11:40, 2nd half
Yeah. This one isn’t getting any closer. Or at least not close enough to become a tight game. USF did get one o board though. So that’s nice for them…
Florida
Just reached their highest point total of the season after a three pointer from Andrea Vilaro Aragones. Gators lead 86-61 with about four minutes left to go…
Florida 91, USF 68 - FINAL
Oh boy. Third game in the Bay area…third blowout. Here’s hoping the trend stops soon.
