Basketball delight: Lynx top Dream when it comes to hip-hop

Part of the fun about sports championships aren't just the sporting events themselves, but all the discussion, anticipation, crazy fandom, and pageantry surrounding the events.  Although the games themselves have yet to be played, the Minnesota Lynx have already scored a major victory over the Atlanta Dream in one particular area:

The rap game.

The Lynx announced on Thursday that hip-hop pioneers The Sugar Hill Gang will perform live at halftime during tonight's game.  Famous for "Rappers Delight" (a song even those who don't follow hip-hop are likely to recognize), The Sugar Hill Gang is also slightly less well known for "Apache", which has been the song of choice for both the Lynx's introductions (see attached video) and post-game celebrations since 2006.  (Yes, that's current Atlanta Dream point guard Lindsey Harding dancing in the second video.)

As if the old school legends weren't enough of a power boost, the Lynx received an additional endorsement from current rap star (and apparently huge women's basketball fan) Lil' Wayne.  Having previously proudly displayed his fandom for Notre Dame star Skylar Diggins during the NCAA women's basketball tournament, Weezy's now asked the Lynx to send him fellow Louisana native Seimone Augustus's jersey.

Having Weezy on their side wasn't quite enough to secure the NCAA Championship for the Notre Dame women's basketball team, but he + The Sugar Hill Gang may provide the Lynx with the extra advantage against a tough and determined Dream.
