How Lauren Jackson's 3-year/$1M Aussie deal could shape sports wages
The lede:
Basketball star Lauren Jackson's dazzling $1 million three-year domestic basketball contract is the largest ever awarded to a woman in Australia.
But it's not just her bank account that is set to receive a boost from the contract. It has opened the door for women's sport in Australia to bridge the gap that exists between its semi-professional status and genuine professionalism. If only more women would support them.

I found this editorial interesting in the fact that netballers are Australia's best-paid sportswomen (after excluding LJ's new deal) and average $22,000 per roster spot. Wow. That's crazy!

It's not crazy
Netball is by far the most popular sport amongst women in Australia so it makes perfect sense that netballers are paid the most.
the crazy part
(to me anyway) was the $22,000 part, not the netball part! However…speaking of netball…I’d love to read more about it from someone who could compare it to basketball! ::cough cough::

So Jackson is averaging
$333,333.33/year for three years?
I don’t know how it can shape Australia, but either way, it shows that they want to keep Jackson “on their turf.”
