Seattle Storm Playoff Notes: "Regular Season Series With Mercury Generates More Hype Than Substance"
The Seattle Storm put the Los Angeles Sparks series behind them quickly and are already looking ahead to the Phoenix Mercury. But how much does that regular season series mean?
"Each game is different," said Storm coach Brian Agler today at practice. "I don't know if you can really go through history on this in terms of predict the future. But they're a good team, we have a lot of respect for 'em, and they've got some great talent on that team."

What it means to me
The 5 – 0 record of the Storm versus the Mercury in the regular season means a lot. While the Merc seem to be playing better of late, it has mostly been against weaker teams. It’s hard to know if the effort was always 100% in some of those losses, but therein lies the problem with the Merc. There have been few games this year where they have given 100% for 40 minutes. I’m not sure that their bench is deep enough for them to go hard for 40 minutes.
I believe the top five players on the Merc, namely Bonner, Taurasi, Smith, Dupree, and Taylor, are better than the Storm’s top five, but it takes more than 5 players to play 40 minutes. Once they dip into their respective benches, it seems like more of a seamless transition for the Storm. With the Merc, you never know what to expect.
I like the players on the Storm, and I like their chances, but I’m still rooting for the Merc.
