Dream vs. Storm: The Informal Game Night Thread

There's no nice formatting here.  No pre-game notes.  No tough analysis.  Just basketball.  If Atlanta wins (and Connecticut loses), the Dream go to their second straight playoffs.  If the Storm win, they clinch home-field advantage throughout the entire WNBA playoffs, for as long as it last.

I'm in Philips Arena right now.  I'll just jot down some random crap as the game moves along. Get your popcorn.  Take your shoes off.  It will be fun.

Katy Perry's California Girls....

…is playing. I call unfair West Coast bias! Yeah, I know the fix is in.

Marynell Meadors is on the floor. That’s a rarity, as she leaves the pre-game coaching to Carol Ross. Yelena Leuchanka chatting with Sue Bird in the center of the court.

Thread-deleting time?

Well, I’ll delete the thread if you need me too. But I suspect that since Mystics/Sun affects both the Dream and Chicago, you’ll have some vistors.

Incidentally....

…I had two Philips Arena staff members ask what the standings were and if we were in the playoffs yet…and if the Storm were any good. I wish I could answer “yes” and “no” but I’m afraid the right answers are in reverse order.

Yeah, still empty. It’s an Atlanta tradition for everyone to come in the third quarter, due to the traffic. No joke.

5-2 Dream

Little at the line at a foul from De Souza. Seattle putting 4 defenders in the lane; Dream playing man-to -man D.

Lyttle said recently that it was very important for Erika de Souza to get her points early. When she does, she tightens up on her defense.

how many touches did Angel get on that last Dream possessino?

by James Bowman on Aug 10, 2010 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

McCoughtry 3-for-6 from the free throw line. Angel gets a lot of points from the line. I should remember to see which WNBA players get the greatest %age of their points from the line – I bet McCoughtry would be a league leader.

Dream up 16-9 in first quarter. 59.4 seconds left.

by James Bowman on Aug 10, 2010 7:34 PM EDT reply actions

Izi shooting a three from Cobb County.

by James Bowman on Aug 10, 2010 7:36 PM EDT reply actions

Price, what are you crazy? Kicking it out to Leuchanka behind the arc? Dream lead 16-11 after first quarter.

by James Bowman on Aug 10, 2010 7:37 PM EDT reply actions

The Dream are only shooting 21.7 percent. That can’t be good. However, Seattle isn’t shooting much better – 25 percent – and are losing every other aspect of the game. Dream cleaning Seattle out on the boards, despite some bad decisions from Leuchanka and Bales’s relative lack of mobility. Dream led 9-2 in offensive rebounds, a lot of 2nd chances.

by James Bowman on Aug 10, 2010 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

1:39 left, first lead in the game. Correx. 32-29.

by James Bowman on Aug 10, 2010 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

The first half is mercifully over. Seattle leads 32-31 at halftime. A 12-2 run by Seattle and seven points from Abby Bishop brought Seattle back. Bird and Jackson only played five minutes.

by James Bowman on Aug 10, 2010 8:09 PM EDT reply actions

Dream shooting an absymal 10-for-43 for 23.3 percent. Dream is 10-for-17 from the free throw line. Dream rebounding dominance keeping Atlanta in the game. McCoughtry, Lyttle and Izi a combined 6-for-27. Atlanta can’t win without production from those three.

by James Bowman on Aug 10, 2010 8:10 PM EDT reply actions
