Dream vs. Storm: The Informal Game Night Thread
There's no nice formatting here. No pre-game notes. No tough analysis. Just basketball. If Atlanta wins (and Connecticut loses), the Dream go to their second straight playoffs. If the Storm win, they clinch home-field advantage throughout the entire WNBA playoffs, for as long as it last.
I'm in Philips Arena right now. I'll just jot down some random crap as the game moves along. Get your popcorn. Take your shoes off. It will be fun.

Katy Perry's California Girls....
…is playing. I call unfair West Coast bias! Yeah, I know the fix is in.
Marynell Meadors is on the floor. That’s a rarity, as she leaves the pre-game coaching to Carol Ross. Yelena Leuchanka chatting with Sue Bird in the center of the court.
Thread-deleting time?
Well, I’ll delete the thread if you need me too. But I suspect that since Mystics/Sun affects both the Dream and Chicago, you’ll have some vistors.

Incidentally....
…I had two Philips Arena staff members ask what the standings were and if we were in the playoffs yet…and if the Storm were any good. I wish I could answer “yes” and “no” but I’m afraid the right answers are in reverse order.
Yeah, still empty. It’s an Atlanta tradition for everyone to come in the third quarter, due to the traffic. No joke.
Another Seattle fan, one wearing a Camille Little jersey. Oh, Atlanta. When will you REPRESENT?

Kathy Betty said....
…in the AJC yesterday that this was the biggest home game of the season. I don’t know, those game against Chicago and Washington might be important too. Those are the only teams (so far) to beat us in Philips.
Meadors is wearing....
…some sort of maroon red-silk blouse. When light shines off it, trains come to a stop.
Marynell Meadors is chatting with Camille Little. Little was the first Dream player to abandon ship during the 2008 Atlanta Dream season. Wonder what the chat is about?
Camille was traded, or rather given away to Seattle
Thanks Meaders!!
The Aaron's Inc people.....
….must be handing out swag at the gate. Everyone’s walking in with an Aaron’s-marked plastic bag.
Alison Bales
…downing the 3 in practice shots. She can down the 3 on the floor. So can LJ. The similarity ends there.
First Personalized Jersey
…seen on a young girl in Philips. A Dream jersey. We no longer have Coco Miller at #9, we have Shorty. Bad Romance on the overhead.
Another Storm Jersey
#2, Cash. I did see an Angel McCoughtry jersey, but I know that person so it doesn’t count.
Did I just hear...?
…a drum corp practicing outside? And someone beating on thundersticks behind me?
“Here come the drums, here come the drums!”
Starters announced yet? Seems like agler is going to get the big guns rest at some point, but may not be until the 2H
No word on starters just yet.
I heard the same thing that Agler would rely on the bench more. Bird was warming up about thirty minutes ago. LJ took a few practice shots.

Yep - I am watching for that as well...
…obviously. :)

I don’t think this one is on ESPN tonight, so we’re lucky.

Ten minutes to game time.
Philips Arena still looks pretty bare, but I’ve seen that change over two quarters. Someone is wearing a Diana Taurasi T-shirt. #15 for the Storm warming up with everyone else.
Greetings...
Sue Blauch, Brenda Pantoja, Clarke Stevens are the refs.
Sancho Lyttle and Shalee Lehning have shaken hands in good sportsmanship with Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird. All is well.
Attendance low....
…for a game that could put Atlanta in the playoffs. Some sections are virtually vacant.
I'm gonna be joining you in a few...
Very interested to see how this matchup differs from the last given that both teams have improved…
…or at least until Agler implements Operation Expect Rest.

5-2 Dream
Little at the line at a foul from De Souza. Seattle putting 4 defenders in the lane; Dream playing man-to -man D.
Time out Seattle.
Dream have found away around Jackson, who hasn’t done much so far. Erika de Souza looking good and McCoughtry seems on the mark. 11-4 Dream.
Today's quiz question for the TO:
“What is the Dream record for franchise wins in a season?”
Answer: 18 wins. A win tonight sets a new record.
Play Nolan Richardson for one game...
…and start making line changes… :)

Atlanta calls full time out.
Iziane still on the floor. I think she fell on her face. She suffered a broken nose this year…and now, she’s up.
Place filling up a little more now....
…previously vacant sections no longer vacant. Turning into a nice crowd.
I think it was more........
My Angel slept through the Storm. I do hope they make the playoffs!
The Dream are only shooting 21.7 percent. That can’t be good. However, Seattle isn’t shooting much better – 25 percent – and are losing every other aspect of the game. Dream cleaning Seattle out on the boards, despite some bad decisions from Leuchanka and Bales’s relative lack of mobility. Dream led 9-2 in offensive rebounds, a lot of 2nd chances.
From the broadcast...
“Seattle is shooting a season low…”

Seems like turnovers are dooming the Storm again?

Nothing promo-worthy about this one so far.

Dream 28, Storm 20
Agler should be very happy. His reserves are only eight points behind three Dream starters.
I'm positive he'll acknowledge that the Dream have NOT played well...

Dream 28 Storm 28
Storm roll off eight points. Finally, a time out. Bishop scores five points. 2:48 left in the half. Dream shooting 28.5 points.
Bishop is looking solid on the wing...
The fact that she can hit that three makes her valuable in spot minutes…
SwishAppeal.com for women's basketball...SB Nation Seattle for Seattle sports. Twitter: @QMcCall3.
Fast fact.
- All of Seattle’s losses have come on the road.
by James Bowman on Aug 10, 2010 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions
A faster fact
10 of Seattle’s 25 wins have come on the road, 1/2 of those from the East.
Getting a little hot. Technical against Atlanta for taking too many time outs!

Washington 58, Connecticut 40
If the Dream can win tonight, it’s looking like they can clinch a playoff spot. IF they can win.
Lauren Jackson sort of waved her hands at that last possession. She wasn’t really trying all that much.
Dream 43 Storm 39
Lyttle seems to have found her touch. Izi’s hit a few baskets. McCoughtry is still cold. Atlanta’s improved accuracy is enough to put the Dream up with 4:45 left in the third.
Dream 55, Storm 52
Up by seven pints, Little hits two free throws, and Svet gets a steal. The Dream still lead at the end of the third quarter.
I cannot believe the Storm are in this game..

Atlanta shooting under 30 percent. That’s why.

…or Dream off?
I missed the 3rd qtr.

Dream off.
Dream have ruled the boards but nothing has fallen in.

Storm 62, Dream 61 - 6:21 left in fourth
Atlanta is now over the limit.
If the Dream lose tonight, this is the one that’s going to cause a lot of sleepless nights. The Storm handed over opportunity after opportunity, and the Dream simply declined to win the game.
Now this is how you play on the road
I just got here. A very tight game right now.
I'm a diehard Cavs fan, proud to say I never owned a LeBron jersey.
oh puuuuullll-eeeazzzee
Were they ever out of it? You’re “back in it” when you come back from a big deficit.
I'm a diehard Cavs fan, proud to say I never owned a LeBron jersey.
Yeah, but they’ve played like they were behind by 20. :P

Unbelievable.

Naw...I could have forseen a score like that.
Or even Atlanta winning by 10.
Here’s unbelievable: the Shock winning by 9. No one can see that coming.
I'm a diehard Cavs fan, proud to say I never owned a LeBron jersey.
Well...
I was thinking more about how poorly they played in the first…and that their bench really dug them out of a hole…

I should have left when they announced the refs
Here’s your stat of the year:
Atlanta when Sue Blauch refs: 2-6
Atlanta when anyone else refs: 16-6
