Game thread: Connecticut Sun (9-5) at Tulsa Shock (3-11)
What: The Connecticut Sun travel to Tulsa for their first meeting of the season to take on the Tulsa Shock
When: 7:00 p.m. cst
Where: BOK Center - Tulsa, OK | LiveAccess
The Story:
Tina Charles and company take on the Shock tonight, who are fresh off an almost-win against Seattle. Almost might be liberal, but leading the first three quarters plus is a pretty exciting feat for a 3-11 team. Charles is the Sun leading scorer (19.3 points per game), rebounder (10.3 rebounds per game) and blocker (4.0 blocks per game) and is sure to be tonight's featured player against the Shock.
Tulsa has the dubious distinction of owning an eight game losing streak and are hoping to get just their second win in the month of June this evening. Tulsa almost stopped their losing streak on Sunday, after letting one slip away against the Storm. Tulsa fell 83-72 after being outscored 26-10 in the final 10 minutes of the contest.

All-Stars...
…not that it partains to this thread a ton since no Connecticut or Tulsa players were voted to the team, but…
There will be 4 San Antonio players (Becky Hammon, Jayne Appel, Michelle Snow, Sophia Young, 3 Seattle players (Sue Bird, Swin Cash, Lauren Jackson, and one each from Indiana (Tamika Catchings), Phoenix (Diana Taurasi) and Los Angeles (Candace Parker) on the initial WNBA All-Star roster.
Tough D early for Tulsa!
Grab a backcourt violation that results in Kiesha Brown’s second basket of the night. Nice…
Looks like CT is a bit discombobulated with the pressure
Tulsa defense really is coming on strong – getting the Sun to make a few bad desicisions early tonight.
4:24, 1st quarter; CT 11, Tul 14
All about the defense. Six early turnovers for the Sun that have led to six Shock points. They’re supposed to be reviewing the first basket for Tulsa (by Brown) to see if it’s a 2 or 3, but this is the current scoreboard.
End of 1st quarter; CT 26, Tul 23
On the last foul called on Jennifer Lacy going, sending Renee Montgomery to the line, Richardson was heard throughout the arena yelling (loudly), “way to take the charge!!!” on the questionable call…
Wow. When did that happen?
Kiesha Borwn has 10 of the Shock’s 25 points already. 5-of-5 shooting, 1 rebound, 2 assists and a steal…
And one for Natasha Lacy
Cuts the Connecticut lead to 6 after the made free throw. 45-39 and now Tan White is at the line for the Sun.
Halftime; CT 50, Tul 42
First half leader for Tulsa is Kiesha Brown with 10 points. For the Sun, Tan White has 11 and Sandrine Gruda 10. Tina Charles is well on her way to yet another double-double with nine boards and eight points in the first half. Which – if (or when is probably more like it) she gets it – will be her sixth consecutive…
Almost time for the 3rd quarter...
…and Nolan Richardson is having quite a discussion with Clarke Stevens. We’ll see if there is any changes (good or bad) in the second half…
A little more jawing-this time with Kevin Sparrock
Ref: “Remember the warnings, remember the warnings…”
Nolan: “What? You mean I can’t ask any questions??”
4:17, 3rd quarter; CT 65, Tul 56
Man, there are some feisty folks here tonight…
On the Tina Charles double-double watch, she’s one board away from the mark…
Tulsa is being outrebounded 28-14 right now, so I’m thinking Charles will get that last board sooner rather than later. And about those rebounds – the Sun have 14 second chance points compared to just 3 for the Shock…
2:04, 3rd quarter; CT 74, Tul 60
What is it with these third quarters?? Not good at all for the home team after the halftime break…a recurring theme (that I do not enjoy).
End of 3rd quarter; CT 78, Tul 66
Goodness gracious! The fan hollering behind me might be the most entertaining part of the game right this minute. And one of the local news guys agrees. He said someone should mic him up for the color analyst for the game. LOL
THAT'S fan involvement...

Tina Charles
…has her double-double and ties the franchise record with her 12th double-double of the season, 6th in a row.
My lord...
That’s crazy…

Yes it is.
the WNBA rookie record for double-doubles is 17…I’m guessing she’ll get her name at the top of that list if she continues to play like this…

7:37, 4th quarter; CT 83, Tul 70
Other than Charles’ double-double, Gruda (14), Lawson (13), White (13) and Montgomery (10) are also in double-digits for the Sun…
5:25, 4th quarter; CT 87, Tul 72
Oy. Started so well…ending so not for the Shock. Still a bit of time, but I’m doubting there’s 15 points worth of time…rats.
Backcourt violation
You can tell the Shock play the entire game very determined until the final buzzer when things like that happen, but it’s obvy not enough to create a W. Unfortunately for Tulsa.
2:54, 4th quarter; CT 96, Tul 80
The Sun have five scorers in the teens, while Tulsa has none to this point…rebound discrepancy is now 38-22 in favor of Connecticut…
Final: Connecticut 101, Tulsa 89
It’s a wrap from Tulsa, folks. The Sun scoring was led by 5 ladies with at least 16 points. Yes, five – that is no typo. Tina Charles led the game’s rebounders with 12, followed by Gruda with nine.
For Tulsa, Scholanda led all scorers with 19, the Shock shot just 60.9% from the free throw line (an Achilles heel yet again) and Tulsa keeps on riding that losing streak.
