Game Thread: Minnesota Lynx (3-9) @ Tulsa Shock (3-7)

Amber Holt took a ton of free throws after the team looked pretty miserable from the charity stripe last night, Marion Jones gave me grief about the Celtics losing and Kiesha Brown told me if I took a decent pic of her, she’d put it on twitter as she’s repping her foundation in hopes for a Pepsi grant. My night might be done now. Hahaha

…Wayman Tisdale’s bother said, he prayed the officials had sound eyes and calls. After the last out of bounds play was initial called Lynx ball, a lady in the stands hollered, “c’mon ref, you heard what we told God earlier!”

Same play – Cheryl Reeve already in the ear of Penny Davis about the shot clock and call reversal.

…with trouble checking into the game. Got Reeve back in the officials’ ear and looking surly with her team down 10-4 after the first almost four minutes are in the books.

two called already on the Shock, crowd (& I) saw nothing…

Aside from missed fts…

You learn in high school NEVER to pick the ball up there.. but great coordination to push the ballhandler there…

Putting a team on the line 5 times in a row is no way to win basketball games…

Wow. The emotion in the rebound, lay-up, and one play….I like that!

They’re not gonna overwhelm anybody with talent… so going hard to the basket is key…

High soceres are Whalen for Minny and Braxton for Tulsa. Braxton scored the first 6 points of the game and nothing since…just like last night, the Lynx shooting isn’t the best (36.4%) compared to the 63.6% by the Shock.

Great play by Scholanda – grabs the steal, almost turns it over, goes coast to coast and flips it in. Very nice. Too bad no Shock players are playing any defense tonight yet.

They’re playing fine offensively… defense is not quite as good…

Who’s playing less? Crossley?

Defense seems to be more than lacking for Tulsa and Minnesota is capitalizing on that – now shooting at 54.5%. Whalen has 12, Wiggins with 9 & Augustus with 7. Lots of open looks for the Lynx tonight…

So far this year, Bird is hands down the best pg in the league…

But I’ll take Whalen’s 12 pts on 5-6 shooting, 4 asts, 2 stls, and 3 rebs in about 17 minutes too…

This. Kills. Me. Why they don’t play this stretch of pretty much any game is beyond me. Like seriously.

A 7 point halftime lead for Minny already swelling to 13 after 4 minutes of the 2nd half. Ew.

After Kiesha Brown picks up her 3rd personal. And again aftger Jennifer Lacy gets rung up for one two – Shock have 5 in the quarter already. 5.

…and now the lead is up to 18. Richardson needs to stop having halftimes. Just stay on the court, shoot around, something. This is insanity.

That does not bode well for the Shock when Kara doesn’t get her first board until the 3rd quarter is winding down.

But the D… where is the D?

Tulsa on a run to get the game back under control a bit after 2 scores by Crossley and another by Braxton. Very very nice!

Could have been way way worse. The typical Tulsa 3rd quarter has them losing many more than the 4 points gained by the Lynx. Kinda sad that losing the 3rd qaurter is expected from Tulsa. I vote for no more halftime.

As the shot clocked buzzer sounded…where praytell is the Shock D? Is the APB out yet? It should be.

Look at how quick Whalen gets to the ball on the rebound.. that’s crazy…

The Shock are now riding a 5 game loss streak and give the season series to the Lynx 3-2 after back-to-back losses this weekend.
