Pre-game

Amber Holt took a ton of free throws after the team looked pretty miserable from the charity stripe last night, Marion Jones gave me grief about the Celtics losing and Kiesha Brown told me if I took a decent pic of her, she’d put it on twitter as she’s repping her foundation in hopes for a Pepsi grant. My night might be done now. Hahaha

Anthem goosebumps!

WOW!!! G3 (I think they called them) … amazing!!!

by Jessica Lantz on Jun 19, 2010 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

In the invocation...

…Wayman Tisdale’s bother said, he prayed the officials had sound eyes and calls. After the last out of bounds play was initial called Lynx ball, a lady in the stands hollered, “c’mon ref, you heard what we told God earlier!”

Same play – Cheryl Reeve already in the ear of Penny Davis about the shot clock and call reversal.

Not even God can help WNBA refs...

It’s truly hopeless.

Charde Houston

…with trouble checking into the game. Got Reeve back in the officials’ ear and looking surly with her team down 10-4 after the first almost four minutes are in the books.

Nolan Richardson

“She’s tearing the ball ref! Tearing the ball!! You can’t do that!” (after the foul on Alexis Hornbuckle.

Man I love his in-game quotes.

"Tearing the ball?"

What happened?

Just sitting down :)

Oh ya know! Nolan wanted a reason to holler a bit I think…

Outstanding trap...

You learn in high school NEVER to pick the ball up there.. but great coordination to push the ballhandler there…

Of course, if it’s against the poor free throw shooting of Tulsa, it might indeed be a way to win. Hmmm…

Jennifer Lacy getting excited!

Wow. The emotion in the rebound, lay-up, and one play….I like that!

I love the way they're attacking the basket

They’re not gonna overwhelm anybody with talent… so going hard to the basket is key…

End 1st quarter; MINN 23, TUL 21

High soceres are Whalen for Minny and Braxton for Tulsa. Braxton scored the first 6 points of the game and nothing since…just like last night, the Lynx shooting isn’t the best (36.4%) compared to the 63.6% by the Shock.

by Jessica Lantz on Jun 19, 2010 8:35 PM EDT reply actions

What was that?!

Great play by Scholanda – grabs the steal, almost turns it over, goes coast to coast and flips it in. Very nice. Too bad no Shock players are playing any defense tonight yet.

by Jessica Lantz on Jun 19, 2010 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

This is about putting together a complete game...

They’re playing fine offensively… defense is not quite as good…

Very true.

Defense looks downright awful.

I'm surprised Brown is playing so much...

Who’s playing less? Crossley?

Crossley has 10 minutes

So perhaps it’s her a little, but no one is over 10 at this point…

But that last play is what Brown brings...

Just pure effort on both ends…

2:45, 2nd quarter; MINN 45, TUL 36

Defense seems to be more than lacking for Tulsa and Minnesota is capitalizing on that – now shooting at 54.5%. Whalen has 12, Wiggins with 9 & Augustus with 7. Lots of open looks for the Lynx tonight…

by Jessica Lantz on Jun 19, 2010 8:51 PM EDT reply actions

People say, "I just don't see what makes Whalen so good"

So far this year, Bird is hands down the best pg in the league…

But I’ll take Whalen’s 12 pts on 5-6 shooting, 4 asts, 2 stls, and 3 rebs in about 17 minutes too…

Commentator on the Lynx's 3pt shooting: "Man, 7-8 how do you stop that?"

You don’t…

Tulsa just has to keep it close till they cool off…

Ugh. Tulsa back to no-showing 3rd quarters.

This. Kills. Me. Why they don’t play this stretch of pretty much any game is beyond me. Like seriously.

by Jessica Lantz on Jun 19, 2010 9:21 PM EDT reply actions

In the second quarter they had to suffer through crazy 3 point shooting..

In the third they have to suffer through the existence of third quarters…

Is the problem the number 3?

6:19, 3rd quarter; MINN 55, TUL 42

A 7 point halftime lead for Minny already swelling to 13 after 4 minutes of the 2nd half. Ew.

by Jessica Lantz on Jun 19, 2010 9:22 PM EDT reply actions

Boo birds.

After Kiesha Brown picks up her 3rd personal. And again aftger Jennifer Lacy gets rung up for one two – Shock have 5 in the quarter already. 5.

by Jessica Lantz on Jun 19, 2010 9:24 PM EDT reply actions

4:13, 3rd quarter; MINN 62, TUL 45

…and now the lead is up to 18. Richardson needs to stop having halftimes. Just stay on the court, shoot around, something. This is insanity.

by Jessica Lantz on Jun 19, 2010 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

Last rebound was Braxton's first on the night.

That does not bode well for the Shock when Kara doesn’t get her first board until the 3rd quarter is winding down.

OK! I dog on Shanna...

…for taking the ball into the paint, but she had a nice cut to the basket for the score a moment ago.

1:12; 3rd quarter; MINN 67, TUL 57

Tulsa on a run to get the game back under control a bit after 2 scores by Crossley and another by Braxton. Very very nice!

So it's just like beginning of third quarters...

I think we need to set up a secret camera in the locker room to see what’s going on at halftime…

They come out in a slumber..

End of the 3rd quarter; MINN 68, TUL 57

Could have been way way worse. The typical Tulsa 3rd quarter has them losing many more than the 4 points gained by the Lynx. Kinda sad that losing the 3rd qaurter is expected from Tulsa. I vote for no more halftime.

I don't believe that's the case.

This 2nd half slump in games (or at least 3rd quarter woes) started early in the year for Tulsa – prior to any turnover. And I really think as for team cohesion, the changes were necessary (or at least some of the moves).

by Jessica Lantz on Jun 19, 2010 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions

It's just hard to imagine how you beat a team shooting 11-15 from 3...

Final: Minnesota 92, Tulsa 78

The Shock are now riding a 5 game loss streak and give the season series to the Lynx 3-2 after back-to-back losses this weekend.
