Live Blog: Atlanta @ San Antonio

I'm sure that a lot of people will be watching Minnesota-Tulsa on NBA.TV, but for those of us who have Fox Sports South - or WNBA Access - the Atlanta Dream opens their season in the far-off land of San Antonio, a land of mystery and enchantment. The preview for this game is also on Swish Appeal. For those of you who want to contribute their observations...here we go!

In HD, too!

That is, if you get the upper tier of Comcast. There’s an HD channel for Fox Sports South, so…..

…for those who read Pleasant Dreams frequently, you might know about my struggles with internet access when it’s raining outside. Weather: overcast. So if I drop off the face of the earth, you know it’s raining in Atlanta.

My wife is watching “The People’s Court” on DVR. My attitude to the Dream’s woes is that of Judge Marilyn Milian; that of the rest of Dream fandom is that of Judge Judith “Judy” Scheindlin.

The Dream are looking very sharp on the road. McCoughtry looks good. Alison Bales, who had a substandard preseason, was looking good out there, almost getting a block.

by James Bowman on May 15, 2010 8:16 PM EDT reply actions

"...almost getting a block."

Can we record that as “block attempt”?

End of first quarter. 25-16 lead by the Dream.

My biggest surprise: Erika de Souza, who has a sweet shot and is a real factor despite the fatigue. Meadors stated that she wouldn’t use de Souza much, but she might not have much of a choice with Holdsclaw holding out.

McCoughtry has 9 points for the Dream. Your Pick One is coming along nicely.

25-19 Atlanta. Dream getting sloppy with the ballhandling.

SASS

not once, have I felt that they’d make a comeback. I feel like the Atlanta Dream are playing their pace, in their control. They work hard(SASS) but just don’t have the personnel to compete right now!

How is SASS' point guard play?

Is Hammon doing most of the ball handling?

Halftime. Dream up 40-32.

A big difference between Lehning and, say, Kelly Miller. Miller is always out there looking for something to do on defense, eyes darting back and forth. Lehning seems to stand around and wait for the play to end. One-on-one, Lehning was no match for Edwige Lawson-Wade.

Erika de Souza looks tired. Slow to get started after the rebound, tip backs that lack the oomph that you’d expect from the Beast of Brazil. She’s finding it a little hard to finish. But even that, 8 points, 10 rebounds in the first half.

The Millers looked good out there together. Bales has been fairly decent. Izi is free swinging. The Dream were 5-10 from the stripe, but the Silver Stars were 3-10.

Weather has eaten about 20 of my comments.

"Lehning seems to stand around and wait for the play to end."

That’s the funniest way to describe a bad defender ever…
