Phoenix Mercury Wavies Stevenson and Paris

Official Release:

Phoenix Mercury WAIVES STEVENSON AND PARIS

PHOENIX - The Phoenix Mercury announced today that the club has waived Nyeshia Stevenson and Ashley Paris. The Mercury roster now stands at 13 players.

Star-divide

The deadline for roster cuts is Friday, May 14th. Ashley Paris' release should clear the way for Brooke Smith to return to the team in role as a backup big. It remains to be seen if the Mercury will carry a third point guard or go with two wing players. My money is on Lenae Williams and Sequoia Holmes making the final roster along with Brooke.

Phoenix Mercury Roster

I had high hopes for Ashley Paris, but now that she’s been waived, I’m sure they will keep Brooke Smith. I thought Brooke had a solid outing against China, and is playing with more confidence than I have seen in the past, but she needs to be more aggressive on offense. I also liked what I saw of Lenae Williams; she looks very fit, played like the veteran she is, and we know she can score. She should prove to be a solid backup for Taurasi. After that, I can’t really pick between Yuko Oga, Taylor Lilley, and Sequoia Holmes, as I haven’t seen enough of any of them.

I'm hoping for Lilley. :)

Solely for looks. Based on talent, I’d want Lenae as the backup PG. And I was extremely impressed by Sequoia’s vertical/leaping ability and jumper. Jumper was smooth, and on a break, she got up high enough where she probably could’ve dunked it. It was awesome.
