Quick Analysis: "Tulsa Shock trades Crystal Kelly to the San Antonio Silver Stars for Shanna Crossley"
San Antonio Silver Stars general manager Dan Hughes said before the draft that they were looking for a post player. After picking up Stanford University center Jayne Appel in the draft, they have now traded Shanna Crossley for Crystal Kelly.
This looks good for the Silver Stars because although the Shock are touting Crossley's three point shooting, she was only responsible for 2.5% of the Silver Stars' overall production last year (missing 11 of the first 13 games due to injury). In trading her for Kelly -- who was not a major contributor to the Shock last year either -- they improve their offensive rebounding quite a bit without much loss. Nevertheless, it does mean that they have now lost a large portion of their 2009 three point shooting this off-season.
For the Shock, Crossley will add to their three point shooting (they were 5th in 2009), but they still seem to have bigger needs on their current roster. With Cheryl Ford and Taj McWilliams-Franklin still unsigned, Kelly would have been a factor on the boards.

I completely agree with you.
Kelly is great at running and finding spots to score and get to the free throw line. They must have something else in the works…

The only thing
I think of when I see Crossley’s name is her being posterized by Cappie in the playoffs

An additional thought...
Although I pointed out the holes in Tulsa’s roster, SASS seems to have a major imbalance on theirs as well: after drafting Appel, they have four centers on the roster and after trading for Kelly, three power forwards. The trade leaves them with only 3 guards under contract… so… another trade coming? Or faith in Edwige Lawson-Wade (RFA) and Alexis Rack?
