Rumours & Musings around the WNBA

Alright, so I have some more interesting information regarding coaching changes. I found out on Twitter, as usual because I wouldn't be able to find out from anywhere else, that Minnesota's Jen Gillom is becoming the new head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks. Jayda Evans recently tweeted this information and I find this very fascinating and intriguing. I feel happy for Jennifer Gillom yet I can't bear to see how any of the Minnesota Lynx players must be feeling right now about this latest piece of news. Its very strange to see something like this occuring in the WNBA and I hope that the Minnesota Lynx organization find someone very reputable as the 2010 Lynx team is young and dangerous.

When the official announcement comes out of this week, I will have more to say.

It sounds like Cheryl Reeve is highly respected around the league. Link to the press conference:

She mentioned that she has always maintained a head coach’s mentality as an assistant with Detroit and moreso than any other assistant I saw this past season, she looked to be in control of the huddle.

Just from the press conference, it seems like she’s all about business — setting clear goals, communicating them, and holding people accountable. Not that it didn’t happen last year, but the “presser rhetoric” was solid. :)

Cheryl Reeve

yeah, I don’t know a whole lot about her but your right she must be a pretty darn good coach if Bill Laimbeer kept her as the former Detroit Shock general manager. I really hope so, because fans of ANY Minnesota team need some winning to rub off on them. The Lynx are a perfect candidate to spell relief and pride for WNBA basketball. Also did you hear about how the coaches instead of 3 is now 2? That really really sucks. The WNBA is really suffering right now. I hope some famous woman billionaire steps up and helps either buy/own/manage a franchise, that would be so awesome :D

Hmmm...

Famous woman billionaire with a network of her OWN?

Perhaps that person should purchase both the Monarchs and the league…
