Ann Meyers Drysdale in an exclusive Swish Appeal interview said the Phoenix Mercury are 90% sure they won't be able to return the same roster that won the 2009 WNBA championship due to a significant drop in the WNBA salary cap for the 2010 season.
Free agents include Cappie Pondexter, Penny Taylor, Temeka Johnson and Le'Coe Willingham.

Ohnoes.
Well, imo the Merc are the second most-loaded team in the W (besides the Lynx), so this isn’t surprising at all.
Best bet? Penny comes back and starts at the four. The Merc drop Willingham. Diana and Tangela Smith are probably max, so if the Merc offer Penny and Cappie max, Meek should get almost-max but not. Bonner is in her rookie contract.
UNLESS. Unless they are willing to take in less money for another championship. The chances of that? 10%. Very unlikely. (Although all these free agents probably/do have substantial Euro contracts.)
Somehow, the Merc should just figure out a way to dump Kelly Mazzante. Her contract is taking up too much space.
